Indicator and Measure Development

Our team’s research includes the development and validation of measures and indicators to enable the collection of rigorous, valid, and reliable quantitative data collection and high quality data for the purposes of research, programming and policies. Measures and indicators produced or validated by our team include, but are not limited to:

  • Validation of the SAMANTA scale to measure heavy menstrual bleeding in low- and middle-income countries
  • A suite of scales to measure aspects of women’s empowerment as it relates to sanitation in urban areas
  • Proposed and validated indicators for menstrual health and hygiene in the workplace
  • Gender-specific, WASH-related measures and indicators to measure progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 6  with technical guidance
  • Proposed indicators for measuring menstrual health and hygiene among girls in schools
  • Novel scales to measure menstruation and sanitation insecurity
