The Strong Women, Strong World: Beyond Access (SWSW) program, delivered by World Vision in Guatemala, Honduras, Kenya, and Zimbabwe, seeks to increase women’s empowerment and well-being through integrated water improvements and economic empowerment training. While SWSW theorizes that greater water security can enable greater economic empowerment, a knowledge gap for women’s actual experiences in program areas exists.
Our research with SWSW aims to understand women’s barriers to economic empowerment, women’s water collection experiences, and SWSW’s program process, in order to illuminate the economic and water landscape women live in these settings and to enhance SWSW programming.
